Described as being "on the verge of becoming an opera star " (EagleHerald), Brenda Bushera lights the stage as a "talented and gracious young woman" (Peshtigo Times). Originally from Wausaukee, WI, Brenda began her professional career with her debut as Blanche in Dialogues of the Carmelites at the Chicago Cultural Center. Completing her education in June of 2004, Brenda received a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Northwestern University where she studied with both Sunny Joy Langton and Sherrill Milnes, adding to her Bachelor degrees in Music Theatre and Human Resources from Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI.
Brenda has been seen as Madame Pernelle in Tartuffe, Alice in Falstaff (sung in Italian), Fiordiligi in Cosi Fan Tutte, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Rapunzel in Into the Woods, while performing solos with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. Brenda also has performed a concert series with Classical International Performers, presenting famous opera arias and art songs in the Chicago and surrounding areas. In 2005, Brenda made her presence with the One Theatre Company in Chicago by understudying with 3 performances in City of Angels, both as the Alto in the Angel City Four, and also the lead as Alaura Kingsley/Carla Haywood. In 2007, she bagan working with the Chicago Cabaret Project performing in Geisha, Gaysha and Howdy Ho and Their Cowboy Show.
Currently a member of the Wisconsin 132nd Army National Guard Band, Sergeant Bushera serves as a part-time saxophonist and vocalist performing throughout the world including a 2009-2010 deployment to Iraq with the 34th ID Band where she received the bronze star for being the first American ever to learn, perform and teach the Iraqi National Anthem to the Iraqi people and United States. Her accomplishments with the anthem provided the first resources on Wikipedia and other websites for language dictation and translation purposes.
